Reading Tutor in Riverdale, Bronx
In-Home and Online Reading Tutoring for Grades K-6

In-Home Reading Tutoring in Riverdale
Eliana Levey lives in Manhattan and travels to Riverdale for in-home reading sessions with children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Lessons happen at home, where your child is comfortable, and each one follows a plan built from your child’s own assessment.
Online sessions on Zoom follow the same plan, for families who would rather meet online.
It all starts with a free 30-minute consultation, where you can share what feels hard for your child and hear how sessions would work.
Hey, I'm Eliana Levey!
I’m a reading interventionist, and I’ve taught both kindergarten and second grade. I hold a master’s degree in childhood education from Relay Graduate School of Education.
I live in Manhattan and travel to Riverdale for in-home sessions, so your child can learn somewhere familiar, without an extra trip at the end of the school day.
My lessons are multisensory. Children build words with magnetic letters, write on whiteboards and trace letters in the air, so each new skill is practiced more than one way.
What I want for every child is simple: reading that feels a little easier and a lot more enjoyable, session by session.

The Process
Four steps, from your first call to regular sessions at home in Riverdale or on Zoom.
Schedule your initial meeting to discuss your child's reading needs and goals.
We delve into understanding your child's reading strengths and areas that need a little extra attention.
We design a customized learning plan specifically tailored to your child's needs.
With the plan in action, your child embarks on their reading adventure, attending regular tutoring sessions.

How Code To Read Teaches Reading
Every plan starts with where your child is today. Lessons move at your child’s pace and build on what they have already mastered.
Each lesson comes from your child's assessment and is adjusted as their skills grow.
Sounds, letters and words are practiced by seeing, saying, hearing and moving, which helps new skills stick.
Lessons draw on years of teaching kindergarten and second grade, the grades where early reading skills take root.
Reading Support for Riverdale Families
Riverdale sits in the northwest Bronx along the Hudson River, and families here choose from a wide mix of public, private and religious schools. In-home tutoring fits alongside any of them, because each plan is built from your child’s own assessment rather than one school’s curriculum.
- Phonics and decoding new words
- Fluency: reading smoothly and with expression
- Comprehension: understanding and retelling what they read
- Confidence to read independently
In New York public schools, the state English Language Arts test starts in third grade and is given each spring through eighth grade. Strong decoding and fluency in kindergarten through second grade give children a steadier footing when longer reading passages arrive.
